Welcome to the Roman Catholic Parishes of St Mary's & St Bernard's in Coatbridge. Our Parishes are part of the Diocese of Motherwell and are served by our Parish Priest, Father James Travers.

Dear Parishioners of St Marys with St Bernard’s.

May I take the opportunity of wishing you and your family’s good health, and I also pray your spiritual life is active at home in these trying times, within the domestic Church.

At some point in the future we should move into a phase of being able to open our Churches again, especially for our Sunday Mass. To plan for any safe re-opening we will continue to observe social distancing, including the 2m rule that we are used to observing in public. There may also be the requirement to wear face masks.

For social distancing to work well inside the Church suitable signage and guidance will be in place to help us. Appropriate social distancing measures including the 2m rule will reduce capacity in parishioner numbers at our Sunday Mass. To satisfy the demand for parish Mass under this new restriction, an additional Mass time may have to be celebrated. The details of this additional Mass will be confirmed in good time.

Any safe re-opening of the Church will carry with it the necessary requirement to clean, sanitise and wipe down relevant pews and
contact surfaces, after each celebration of Holy Mass. The next Mass to follow will only be celebrated after this cleaning process
has been carried out effectively. To ensure this necessary cleaning of the Church, the Parish will require a team of at least 12 volunteers on a rota basis committed to carrying out this vital role. All PPE materials will be supplied and instruction given.

The more volunteers we get the better for us all. I have an expectation that this volunteer pool will be drawn from
parishioners that fall under the headings of young adults, the youth, and if older, those under 60 who are still fit with no
underlying health issues.

As part of the Church re-opening I am also looking to have in place a rota of three volunteers for an important communication/administration role.

To volunteer in the life of our parish at this time, please call me Fr Travers on 01236 423 550 (leave a short message)

Best Wishes & God Bless

Fr James Travers
